Text: Galatians 4:4-5 (HCSB)

4 But when the completion of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form” Philippians 2:5-7

Intro: Ready for Christmas? The department stores were ready two months ago. Right now in every store that is open with something to sell, there trying to convince you to buy their product. Buy me; take me home, you need this… I must admit even with the preaching, people expect to hear sermons about the inn, the Sheppard’s and the wise men! Let’s not forget the appearances of the angel. I want to start this month’s Christmas messages with a Christmas message Paul wants to share.

God has a plan and He wants to include us in it and we can rejoice in understanding that He is on time and on target with what His will is for us!

Application: God is always on Time!

1. God is Always on Time: “But when the fullness of the time was come” KJV

“When the right time came!” I think of what God did and how we respond. Time is an interesting topic: we are such busy people, we can be in a checkout line with 12 items or less and we become inpatient, what about the traffic light that takes three minutes to cycle? We don’t like commercials on TV because they take so long.

How impatient we become when things don’t work out as planned when our prayers are not answered or when difficulties persist, but God is always on time! Consider some Old Testament examples: Joseph sold into slavery and imprisoned he becomes the prime minister of Egypt
, Moses preserved in the desert becomes the deliverer, The Red Sea experience: the sea opened just in time. God was right on time with the birth of Christ, how long it must have seemed! The promise in the Garden, the prophecies, the silence, then action, angelic activity, the taxing, the crowded inn, the birth, the shepherds, the wise men. By the way God will be right on time with the Second Coming of Christ.

God knows what He is doing and He will continue to know what He is doing, He really is in control and has our best interest at heart for our lives. God is always on time in His working in our lives, you are not here by accident your difficulties are opportunities to believe. He really is on time and on target! Are you making time for Him?

1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. 2 This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, 5 to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. 6 While they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

GOD IS ALWAYS ON TIME!

2. God Meets People where they are: “God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, ” KJV

That is where we all had our beginning, in our mother’s womb, helpless and totally dependent on her for everything, how strange that God should choose this entrance to the world. How great the degree of His humility: “Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form” Philippians 2:5-7

In His earliest days He laid in a manger because there was no room for Him in the Inn. What a spiritual truth that comes from that! God will meet you where you are today. Have you invited Christ to come into your life or is there a problem with finding room for Him? So He is on time and meets you where you are!

I meet people all the time who believe there are things they must have in order before they can approach God. My suggestion is quit trying to finding reasons for not approaching God when He is already there for you!

3. God Wants to Change People from what they are to what they can be: “To redeem them that were under the law” KJV

When God sent forth His Son, He provided the guarantee that all believers would become joint heirs with the Son. Those who under the law are no better than slaves will receive full and complete adoption as sons. The fullness of time refers to the completion of the period of preparation in God’s sovereign timetable of redemption. When the law had fully accomplished its purpose of showing man his utter sinfulness and inability to live up to God’s perfect standard of righteousness, God ushered in a new era of redemption. When He sent forth His Son, He provided the righteousness for man that man could not provide for himself. The Cross of Christ can complete you! God is developing you into what you ought to be.

Jesus not only came to earth as a man but was born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law. Paul explained: Romans 8:3-4 “What the law could not do since it was limited by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in flesh like ours under sin’s domain, and as a sin offering, 4 in order that the law’s requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Like every other man, Jesus was born under the Law. Like every other Jew, He was under obligation to obey and be judged by conformity to God’s written Law in the Old Testament; but unlike any other Jew, He satisfied the requirements of that law by living in perfect obedience to it. And because He lived in perfect obedience, He was able to redeem all other men who were under the Law but not obedient to it, provided they had saving faith in Him. There’s the key to it all a faith you must apply!

Conclusion: Jesus can change your life on time and on target if you will allow Him to! You can only be what you ought to be through his Power.

God is on time and on target!
