Text: Exodus 15:26 (HCSB)

“He said, “If you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illness on you I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

The awesomeness of God! “You will lead the people You have redeemed with Your faithful love; You will guide [them] to Your holy dwelling with Your strength.” Exodus 15:13 (HCSB)

Intro: After the split! Moses under the leadership of God is use in a mighty way to divide the Rea Sea so the Israelites can escape the bondage and enslavement from the Egyptians. This chapter in Exodus records the first song of God’s people praise Him for what He has done. Why is it that often after God does a great work in the life of a believer or believers doubt creeps back in and complaining emerges?

Application: Obedience does cost.

Vs. 26 reminds us that God is the Lord who heals us, He gives us strict instruction that address how we can be healed.

1. The Lord Heals those who Carefully Obey:

“f you will carefully obey the Lord your God”

The LORD now made a covenant, a great promise to His people. Simply stated, God told His people in one word what He expected: obedience. If they obeyed Him, He would not chastise them. But if they disobeyed Him, He would have to chastise them.

- This obedience is a rule of life.
- The obedient person is the person who knows God!
- To be obedient you might just have to be patient:  1) I waited patiently for the Lord, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help. 2) He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. 3) He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:1-3 (HCSB)

These strict instructions next tell us:

2. The Lord Heals those who Do what is RIGHT: “do what is right in His eyes”

Doing what is right allows us to receive His promise. So if we obey Him, He would not have to chastise us. This is the instruction He was giving to the Israelites who have just been set free! The Lord would always be able to provide for them; that is, He would be able to heal them.

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear the Lord your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul?” Deuteronomy 10:12 (HCSB)

THAT IS DOING WHAT IS RIGHT!

These strict instructions next tell us:

3. The Lord Heals those who Pay Attention: "pay attention to His commands,"

"Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, 8 because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit." Galatians 6:7-8 (HCSB)

"Whatever we sow, we shall reap, and whatever we measure out to others shall be measured out to us." Obedience brings blessing, and disobedience brings judgment. Thou for a season you might be having fun and life is great, sin can be fun for a season but the storm will come! Pay attention to the commands of our God and He will give you eternal peace.

These strict instructions next tell us:

4. The Lord Heals those who Keep All: “keep all His statutes”

The Scripture clearly spells out the covenant and the great promise God was making to the Israelites. What we are calling a covenant was a statute, a decree, a law being laid down by God. Remember, a law or decree is set: it is permanent. If the law is obeyed, then the promise is certain. The promise will be fulfilled. We must obey the Lord, diligently listen to Him, and do what is right keeping His commandments so that it may go well!

“For when I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak with them or command them concerning burnt offering and sacrifice. 23 However, I did give them this command: Obey Me, and then I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must walk in every way I command you so that it may go well with you.” Jeremiah 7:22-23 (HCSB)

That’s it! You want to be healed? You must walk in every way I command you so that it may go well with you.”

Conclusion: God does chastise us, all of us who truly believe in Him. He chastises us because He loves us. True chastisement is always for a child's good, and a loving father always chastises and disciplines his child when his child goes astray. So it is with God. God chastises us to correct, to keep us, from going deeper and deeper into sin. From being enslaved more and more by sin, from bringing guilt and pain into our lives and dooming ourselves to an eternity of separation from God.

The people had obviously repented of their terrible sin of complaining, grumbling, and murmuring; and God had forgiven them, pouring out the abundance of His blessing upon them. In vs. 27 God Blesses them.

THE LORD HEALS! AMEN!
