Text: 1 John 2:28 (HCSB)

“So now, little children, remain in Him, so that when He appears we may have boldness and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (HCSB)

Intro: How would you adjust your life if you knew Christ would come today? Jesus is Coming Again:

-
The One who died and rose again will come again!
- Millions accept this truth intellectually.
- Relatively few allow this to change their lives!
- The world is getting ready for the Antichrist.
- Signs in nature: Matthew 24:7 (HCSB) “For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.”

What will Happen when Jesus Comes?

1. If Jesus should come Today, the Christian Dead would be Raised (4:13–16)

The sound of the trumpet … the voice of the archangel, The dead in Christ rise first (WONDERFUL HOPE!).   The grave is not a place of despair - Christians go to heaven when they die 2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV) “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

The Lord returns bringing Christians with Him to resurrect their bodies. This resurrection means a reunion of body, soul, and spirit. The new body will be like the body of Christ:   1 John 3:2 (HCSB) “Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He is.”

a. No more sickness, pain, or suffering
b. No more death
c. No more limitations

2. If Jesus should come Today, Living Believers would Escape Death (4:15–17)

Death has taken its toll through the centuries; Adam died and Abel died, Methuselah died and Moses died, Jacob died and Joseph died, Samson was not strong enough to escape death. Solomon was not wise enough to escape death.  Men still die Hebrews 9:27 (HCSB) “And just as it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment.”

But not all Christians will die!   Those living when Jesus comes will be caught up and changed: “We shall not all sleep” 1 Corinthians 15:51 (HCSB) “Listen! I am telling you a mystery: We will not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed.”

Like Enoch and Elijah, all believers living when Christ comes will be changed (translated) without death. What a blessed hope!

3. If Jesus should come Today, some would be Ashamed (1 John 2:28)

Abiding in Him that we may have confidence, Are you confident when thinking of His return? The suddenness of His coming … in a moment.

- Be ready for His coming.

Conclusion

The Return of Christ a Blessed and Sobering Even.
Are you willing to let this Truth Change your Life?
If Jesus should come today what are you going to do?
